"If men were equally at risk from this condition - if they knew their bellies might swell as if they were suffering from end-stage cirrhosis, that they would have to go nearly a year without a stiff drink, a cigarette, or even an aspirin, that they would be subject to fainting spells and unable to fight their way onto commuter trains- then I am sure that pregnancy would be classified as a sexually
transmitted disease and abortion would be no more controversial than emergency appendectomies. "

Pregnancy problems and pregnancy complaints.

There are pregnancy problems and then there are pregnancy complains. Pregnancy problems can be serious medical complications of pregnancy, mother or baby threatening conditions such as  possible miscarriage, the swelling and high blood pressure of toxemia, or the sky rocketing blood sugar of gestational diabetes.
Their symptoms often go unnoticed, but their all require professional medical care.

Pregnancy complaints, on the other hand, are those seemingly inevitable discomforts that go with having a brand new human being growing inside of you.

The heart burn as the expanded uterus pushes your stomach up. The back aches as the baby's weight strains your muscles. The varicose veins, insomnia, nausea, frequent urination and  bloating. Well, if you are pregnant, you can easily complete this list on your own. These pregnancy complaints don't necessarily need continued professional care once your doctor is aware of them, and self-care is often is the best choice.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you know that you are pregnant? Here is a list of first pregnancy symptoms.

1.Tender, swollen breast. (it feels similar to premenstrual breast tenderness).

2.Darkening of your areolas and milky discharge from the nipple (colostrum)  if you try to squeeze the breast.

3.Food cravings (not everyone has it, only some women).

4.Frequent urination (because your urinary system are affected by  human chorionic hormone, produced in pregnancy).

5. Fatigue: high level of hormone Progesterone can make you feel tired mare    than usual.

6.Morning sickness: normally starts a few weeks after conception as a reaction to hormonal changes.

7. Your Basal Body Temperature (body temperature at rest, which taken first things in the morning) high for at least 18 days in a row. This is a very reliable   indicator that you are pregnant, more reliable than all above.

8.A missed period

9. A positive Home Pregnancy Test.

10. Ultrasound detection of fetus.

Do you know the easiest way to calculate your delivery date?

Here I show you how to calculate it: Add 7 days to the day the women's last menstrual period started , and 9 months to the month of her last period. e.g.
If the last period started on 5th January 2006 (5.1.06), she will be due on
12th October 2006 (12.10.06). The calculation is here:
                                                  5.1.06
                                               + 7. 9
                                               = 12.10.06

A pregnancy lasts 40 weeks from the beginning of the last period, but only 38 weeks from conception, because a woman ovulates two weeks after her period starts.

                       Pregnancy Do's and Don'ts

The problem with pregnancy is that it is hard sometimes to give a definite "yes" or "no" to a question. Some experts may say one things, like dying your hair is all right while others may say it isn't.

Here is  my list of Do's:

DO:
1. Exercise regularly (ask your doctor if it's OK before you start)
2.Eat healthy, well-balanced diet (fruits, vegetables, lean meat,
fish, eggs, beans,  whole grains). Eat at least 5-6 small meals a day.
3. Minimize stress as much as you can.
4. Have good night sleep, minimum 8-9 hours every night.
5. Include essential fatty acids in your diet.
6. Hydrate your body. Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
7. Elevate your feet (put pillow under your feet when you sleep)
8.Wear your sunscreen (especially for summer time).
9. Stretch regularly (prepare your muscles for birth).
10.Take your Preconception Care vitamins and minerals.

                                        Don'ts:

DO NOT:
1. Diet (your baby needs enough nutrients to grow).
You need additional 300 calories a day.
2.Wear tight restrictive clothing.
3.Sit in hot bath or exercise in excessive heat.
4.Expose yourself to chemicals.
5. Paint your rooms (fumes are dangerous for the baby).
6. Stand up for a long period of time.
7. Color your hair or perm your hair.
8. Eat row meat, fish, seafood and eggs.
9.Perform any strenuous work or advanced exercise.
10. Reheat food more than once.
1.Refreeze anything that has been defrosted.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What to avoid during exercise and stretching.

1.Avoid lying on your back for a long time after first trimester. (it decrease blood flow to your major blood vessels and womb).
2.Avoid lifting over your head. (it can make you feel dizzy).
3.Avoid extreme stretching or bouncy movement.
4.Avoid exercises which require you to bend from your waist and compress your abdomen.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The most important exercise for pregnant women.

KEGELS are the most important exercise pregnant women can do. The reason for this is that Kegels help your pelvic floor muscles to be in good tone and strength. If your pelvic floor muscles are in good tone you will be less likely to tear your perineum during labor, develop hemorrhoids and have urinary incontinence after giving birth. Strong pelvic floor muscles also give you more of a chance to have an easy birth.

The easiest way to do Kegels is to pretend to stop your  flow of urine on the middle of urination and hold it for 3-5 seconds. Repeat this exercise up to 10-15 times twice a day. You can do Kegels anywhere (sitting, standing, walking, lying) and no one even notice that you are doing it. Do Kegels as soon as you can after delivery (to prevent urine leakage).
